Christian Carnival #138 has been posted over at Thoughts of a Gyrovague. Again, it looks like some fun stuff. Last time I only managed to link to and comment on four posts, I believe, but I read and intended to comment on lots more. Does that count? 🙂

A server glitch resulted in the temporary loss of some posts and several comments. I’m working to restore all comments. One post will need to be rewritten, but that is a minor problem. I’ll get everyone’s comments back in place by this evening.

I apologize for any convenience. Contrary to the allegation of one commenter I do not censor comments except for spam and posts that cross some legal barrier. Apparently my server wasn’t aware of this! 🙂

I divided up my blogging between three blogs, other than the group of official blogs where I am a contributor, because I thought that I would be burdening people with excessive extraneous (say that 5 times fast) material. In particular, I comment here mostly on religion and its impact on society as well as on some theological controversies, so I felt that lengthy expositions of passages of scripture would be inappropriate. Thus, I created the Participatory Bible Study Blog for that purpose. I also tinker with lots of different reading and even a bit of fun with fiction and poetry, for which I created the Jevlir Caravansary. As it turns out, I quite frequently have posts I’m not really sure where to place.

There are a couple readers of Threads might first interesting. First is The War on Fun and Imagination about moral or ethical outrage over people having fun. Then I have Translation and Knowing God, in response to another post suggesting we should have to work to know God. Finally, let me mention my post that was featured in the Christian Blog Carnival this time, Goals in Bible Study.

We now return you to your regular programming. I’m having fun going through the Christian Carnival looking for posts I can respond to. If you tell me I must say “to which I can respond” I will say, “Never!” Grammar is what I want it to be! Words and their syntax are my servants, not my masters!

My Participatory Bible Study blog is represented in this week’s Christian Carnival CXXXVIII: The Kingdom Beacon Herald. I’ve intended to submit something for some time, and though it’s not hard, I’ve just never gotten around to selecting a good entry.

It looks like a fun set of entries, including not only mine, but also this excellent post starting a series transcribing material from Dr. Francis Collins at the American Scientific Affiliation meeting. Those are by no means the only material of interest, of course.

Christian Carnival #137 has been posted at Brain Cramps for God. Though I’ve never submitted anything to this carnival I started following it a few weeks ago and it’s an excellent place to track what’s going on in the Christian blogosphere.

I’ve changed to a three column appearance which I adapted from the existing default WordPress theme. Please let me know if you experience any problems looking at various parts of the blog.

In addition, I’ve added my Co.mments tracking list to the left sidebar. I’m doing this as a test. One of the things I have missed using blogs instead of forums in general (though I still participate in the Compuserve Religion Forum) is the ability to closely follow a wide range of comments on a topic. I think the service provided by co.mments will help with this, and this will also allow me to link easily to sites where I’m commenting and following threads, even if I don’t post an entire blog entry on them here.

Please feel free to leave comments on the value (or lack of it) of this idea. I certainly find the co.mments service helpful for me. We’ll see how it works as a more current source of links.

Threads from Henry’s Web is now being aggregated in the Unright Christian Blogs aggregator. I appreciate this service. To quote its purpose:

This will not draw away from my own Moderate Christian Blog Aggregator, but I think it will add some good connections. Go take a look and see!

If you’re seeing this, the server change is complete at least from your point of view. The nameservers may play their games for a little while, but that shouldn’t make too much difference once you’re here.

Yesterday I changed physical servers for this blog. My plan included posting a message before it went down and then posting another when it returned, but somehow that slipped my mind in all the fun of transferring databases and correcting for a slightly different version of PHP in some of my scripts. (WordPress transferred completely without pain, for any of you who might be considering trying it. I had an obscure function in some of my own code that caused a problem.)
