20160502_083329I sometimes tend to overthink things. I know this will shock my family and friends. I just experienced the downside of this.

Our yard is full of trees. I have nowhere to park my car that doesn’t result in it being covered with tree sap. Now doubtless friends by the dozens will know how to wash this off. I, on the other hand, had to go complicated. I have tried different car washes. Then I tried a pressure washer, which started to damage the paint.

Today I decided (finally) to just get the water hose I use for the garden and a rag. I intended to have some soap, but forgot to buy it. In 15 minutes with the rag and the hose, the car looks just fine.

Overthinking … I could have done this last year and saved time and money on car washes. It hardly takes as long as running through the machine!

    Hmmm. I’m wondering if you calculated all the available space on your property? Did you run an azimuth between the trees to see if there is a 1) less vulnerable space for sap droppings, or 2) consider removing a tree or two (only if they are liquid amber) to open a free space? Then there’s the possibility of trading in your car for one with a smaller footprint. It seems to me you didn’t overthink–you actually under-thought through this. (Hmmm, I’m wondering if a dash is really necessary for under-thought. Perhaps I should just separate with a space.)

    So glad your tree sap was less complex than mine. 🙂 Nothing would touch it but isopropyl alcohol and a whole lot of rubbing with a sturdy rag. And often, the sap was accompanied by bud coats and bits of stems.

    Then those trees died, 26 of them–hybrid poplars–and the sap problem is gone. It cost us $10,000.00 to take those sap-makers away, but it was good riddance! No more sap tracked into the house, either!
