  • Measuring the Speed of a Meme

Acephalous wants to measure the speed of a meme so he can report it at the MLA meeting. Now Well, I’m supposed to explain what’s going on here, and persuade all my readers to also link to the post, even going so far as to invent sob stories. Acephalous will be measuring links to his post every 10 minutes.

Now personally I think the best sob story is that this is an excellent way to get links, but even if that were so (and his site does look like a serious, interesting site), he’d certainly deserve to succeed with such a creative plan.

So whether it’s for science, or to reward a very creative link gathering plan, how about linking to him. Besides, you too will get to be a tiny part of a statistic used to advance science!

Just link to this post, and ping Technorati, which you very likely do anyhow.

  • New Methodist Blogs Weekly Roundup

Allan Bevere has posted the first edition of his new Methodist Blogs Weekly Roundup, numbered #93 in succession from Locusts and Honey.

    Check it out!

  • Christian Carnival CXLIX

Christian Carnival CXLIX has been posted at Touring with Virgil. As always, there are some interesting posts, this time including one of mine from Threads rather than from the Participatory Bible Study blog. Again I have good intentions about commenting on a few posts, but I rarely get beyond one or two a week.

  • MBWR To End

John at Locusts and Honey, is bringing the Methodist Blogs Weekly Roundup to a close with this week’s edition. John has done a wonderful job of building up the Methodist blogosphere, and I have great sympathy for him as he lays aside this enormous task.

I’ll miss the “human touch” in selecting the posts, but there is a new Methodist portal (the Methoblog) which has a good blogroll and some aggregation. So connection via the blogosphere continues.

Thanks to John for his work. Onward and upward, folks!

  • Chocolate Cat Cake

OK, I don’t usually post this sort of thing, but it’s just too funny.

This morning while driving I was listening to a morning show, and one of the folks is about to get married and was having trouble picking a groom cake. He has finally decided to have his two cats done in chocolate cake form. Chocolate cat cake.

This is a bit too weird for me! But look at these:

I guess I’m just a boring person, but I think I’d skip this.

  • Methodist Blogroll Change

I have changed the code here to reflect the new Methodist Blogroll from the new Methodist portal. I understand (and observe, for that matter) that the older blogroll has fallen into disrepair, and this new one is being diligently maintained.

Many features of the portal are also of great interest, and I intend to use it more and more as I try to do my part to keep the conversation going. Head on over and check it out.

  • Christian Carnival CXLVII

Rev-Ed has recovered from election day activities and posted the Christian Carnival CXLVII. Hopefully my schedule this week will allow me to link back to a few of these posts. My post is from my Participatory Bible Study Blog as usual.

Thanks to Rev-Ed for a nice carnival.

I divide my posting between three blogs, this one for posts of general interest, the Participatory Bible Study blog for Bible study posts, and the Jevlir Caravansary for fiction, poetry, literature and related book reviews, including my translations and/or transformations of Biblical material.

  • Ted Who?

John at Locusts and Honey links to an interesting post on Evangelical Outpost that refers to the scandal with Ted Haggard in a dismissive way. Now I would agree that any claim that the Haggard scandal would keep evangelicals home is almost by definition exaggerated.

On the other hand, I think such a scandal does tend to erode support for the moral position involved. Ted Haggard campaigned against gay marriage and then is caught in behavior he has condemned. That’s hypocrisy, and it’s bound to erode some support on his issues. But the political tendency is to spin things before the election. And I want to make it clear that from my persepctive, the hypocrisy is the major sin here.

I’ve got to say that I’ve found it pretty funny to watch evangelicals pretend Haggard is a minor character. I’m not even an evangelical, and I know him pretty well.

  • Threads is Back Home

I’ve now restored everything to where it belongs, and this directory is no longer redirected. I hope it will stay here.
