Off to Consider Christianity Week Seminars

I won’t be doing my Saturday quota of writing because I’ll be involved in a series of seminars commemorating Consider Christianity Week.

I’ll be giving a seminar on “Myths about Bible Translation” (using “myth” in the popular sense, a point I will take the opportunity to discuss!), which will briefly address some common misconceptions about Bible translation. Our out of town guest will be Elgin Hushbeck, Jr., author of the Consider Christianity series. He will follow my presentation with one titled “Turning the Tide,” in which he will address some of the recent books on atheism.

On that note, I need to mention a series of review posts on Mild Mannered Musings which covered some of Elgin’s material. The review is somewhat negative, though as publisher I still appreciate it, and I haven’t managed to link to all the posts yet. The link above is to the last one, and should guide you to the rest of the series if you are interested.

In the afternoon, I plan to have fun, as I moderate a panel discussion on the question “Who was/is Jesus?” with panelists offered the opportunity to answer either version of the question or a combination. Our participants represent a range of views, one largely post-modern, one modernist apologist (Elgin), and one modernist who will be skeptical on the topic. I won’t be presenting my opinion, but will be managing the clock and listening, which should be fun.

So while you’re doing whatever you’re doing, I will be enjoying myself!
